It’s a genuine escape. Whilst there, our kids didn’t look at a device, and weren’t even bothered about watching tv. Instead, they wanted walks, table-tennis, time on the hammock and even to help out, preparing food in the kitchen.

Set in a secluded woodland near the idyllic riverside village of Dittisham, this luxury retreat offers a collection of cedar-clad treehouses, shepherd lodges and an iconic 1950s American Airstream, all thoughtfully positioned among the trees to create a true sense of privacy and immersion in nature. It feels wonderfully remote, yet perfectly placed for exploring one of the UK’s most desirable coastal regions.

We stayed in one of the treehouses and quickly realised this wasn’t simply a countryside break — it was one of the loveliest places we’ve ever stayed.

Designed to sleep two adults, up to three children and an infant (or in our case, a four-legged family member), the treehouses strike that rare balance between rustic charm and boutique luxury. Although elevated among the woodland, everything is incredibly accessible, and the positioning is so cleverly done that you genuinely feel tucked away in your own private corner of the forest. There are no distractions here; no noise from neighbouring guests, no interruptions — only birdsong, rustling leaves and the occasional crackle of firewood drifting through the trees.

Outside, each treehouse comes with its own expansive private deck complete with a hammock, outdoor dining area, seasonal barbecue, sun loungers and a traditional wood-fired cedar hot tub. Evenings quickly fell into a blissful routine: lighting the fire to heat the hot tub, pouring a glass of wine and watching the woodland slowly darken around us while our little dog happily explored the deck before curling up by the stove indoors. Three of the four treehouses are dog friendly, making this an ideal retreat for those unwilling to leave their four-legged companions behind.

Step inside and the attention to detail becomes even more impressive. The interiors are beautifully styled, blending natural textures and rich timber finishes with luxurious comforts throughout. Egyptian cotton bedding, underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove and two immaculate en-suite bathrooms create an atmosphere that feels both indulgent and deeply relaxing. The fully equipped kitchen is spacious enough for proper family cooking, while thoughtful touches such as books, board games, Wi-Fi, hot chocolate, fresh milk and even dog treats make the experience feel effortlessly welcoming from the moment you arrive. When the kids walked in, they both let out a loud “wow!”.

What elevates Dittisham Hideaway beyond simply being a beautiful place to stay is the atmosphere across the site itself. Wandering through the woodland paths at dusk, there’s an almost storybook quality to the setting. Families gather around fire pits, couples soak in steaming hot tubs beneath the trees and children run between hidden woodland trails and outdoor games areas. Scattered throughout the site are little surprises — a teepee tucked among the trees, hammocks swaying gently in the breeze and quiet woodland nooks that invite you to pause and simply enjoy the surroundings.

And then there’s South Devon itself.

The location of Dittisham Hideaway places you in the heart of the South Hams, one of England’s most breathtaking regions. Here, winding estuaries meet dramatic coastline, hidden coves sit beneath rolling green hills and postcard-perfect harbour towns feel untouched by time. It’s little wonder this stretch of coastline has become one of the UK’s most coveted staycation destinations.

During our stay, the area was alive with the energy of the Salcombe Crab Festival — an event that perfectly captured the magic of South Devon in late summer. Salcombe’s narrow streets were transformed into a vibrant celebration of food, music and coastal living. Artisan makers lined the town with stalls selling everything from handcrafted ceramics to local produce, while incredible street food vendors filled the air with the smell of fresh seafood and wood-fired cooking.

Every pub seemed to have live music spilling onto the streets, terraces overflowed with people enjoying the sunshine and the beaches were packed with paddleboarders, swimmers and families soaking up the glorious weather. There was an unmistakable buzz in the air — lively but relaxed, sophisticated but unpretentious. It felt like the very best version of a British seaside holiday. Time stood still, we put our feet in the sea, ate ice creams, drank cold beer, and we just didn’t want it to end.

And yet, despite South Devon’s reputation as one of the country’s most desirable destinations, Dittisham Hideaway somehow still feels refreshingly attainable. This is luxury without the stiffness often associated with high-end escapes. It’s thoughtful, beautifully designed and genuinely comfortable — the kind of place where muddy dogs are welcome, children can roam freely and adults can completely switch off.

Beyond Salcombe, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities for exploration. Dartmouth, just a short drive away, is one of Devon’s most beautiful harbour towns, with pastel-coloured houses climbing the hillsides above the River Dart. Independent boutiques, waterside restaurants and historic streets make it perfect for an afternoon wandering, while nearby Dartmouth Castle and Bayard’s Cove offer fascinating glimpses into the region’s maritime history.

The village of Dittisham itself is equally enchanting. Sitting quietly on the banks of the River Dart, this tiny waterside village is all winding lanes, colourful cottages and bobbing boats. Ferries glide along the estuary, kayakers drift past waterside pubs and life seems to move at an altogether gentler pace.

For beach lovers, South Devon delivers some of the finest coastline in the country. Blackpool Sands, with its crystal-clear water and evergreen backdrop, feels almost Mediterranean on a sunny day, while nearby Slapton Sands and Beesands offer quieter stretches of unspoiled shoreline. Walkers, meanwhile, are spoiled by the South West Coast Path, where dramatic sea views and hidden coves unfold around every headland. Have a dog? Don’t worry, a number of the beaches do allow furry ones on during the peak season.

Further inland, Dartmoor National Park offers a completely different landscape of wild moorland, ancient forests and rugged granite tors — all within easy reach for a day trip.

Totnes is a great town to visit with brilliant shops and great pubs, and there are enough places like this within reach to fill a two week holiday.

Despite everything the surrounding area has to offer, there was always something deeply comforting about returning to the woodland stillness of Dittisham Hideaway each evening.

On the first day we were there, we had lashings of rain and it meant we had the most cosy, heart-warming, quality family time in our treehouse. It was a blessing. The next day, the day we visited Salcombe, the sun was beaming and it was simply beautiful. We really did experience the best of both worlds.

Lighting the wood burner, sinking into the hot tub beneath the trees and listening to the sounds of the forest became part of a rhythm we didn’t want to leave behind.

Some places simply offer accommodation. Others create experiences that stay with you long after you’ve returned home. Dittisham Hideaway belongs firmly in the latter category — a rare blend of luxury, nature and escapism in one of the most beautiful corners of the UK.

Saturday: Pop Heavyweights Arrive

Saturday shifts the focus to pop and alternative music, with performances from Zara Larsson, Louis Tomlinson, Lola Young and Nothing But Thieves.

Additional artists appearing throughout the day include James Blake, Rachel Chinouriri, MUNA, Mitski and Wasia Project.

Saturday night belongs to Zara Larsson, who returns to Big Weekend for her fourth appearance. Since first performing at the festival in 2017, the Swedish star has become one of pop music’s most recognisable names. This year marks her first time headlining the Main Stage, with fans expecting a set packed with major singalong hits and powerhouse vocals.

Sunday: Olivia Dean Closes the Festival

The final day of Big Weekend 2026 features another major line-up led by Olivia Dean, Niall Horan and Kehlani.

Other artists performing on Sunday include Dermot Kennedy, Myles Smith, Ezra Collective, FLO, Holly Humberstone and Maisie Peters.

Closing the festival is Olivia Dean, who arrives in Sunderland following a landmark year in her career. After major chart success and multiple award wins, she is set to headline Big Weekend for the first time, bringing her soulful sound and emotionally rich songwriting to the Main Stage for the festival finale.

Sunday’s highlights will air from 11:55pm on BBC platforms, wrapping up what promises to be one of the biggest music weekends of 2026.

As Blur’s drummer, Rowntree helped shape the sound of one of Britain’s most influential bands. Born in Colchester in 1964, Dave Rowntree’s path into music began long before Blur became synonymous with the Britpop explosion. Since launching, Amandaland, produced by Merman, has gained critical acclaim and legions of fans, with an average of five million viewers over 28-days for series one, making it one of the BBC’s biggest comedy series since 2022*. The series has continued to grow –averaging 6.6 million to date and it was also a hit with younger audiences, drawing 0.8 million 16-34s –making it the top BBC comedy for that age group of the last few years.

The 2025 Christmas special of Amandaland took the UK’s top spot for comedy episodes in 2025 with an audience of 7.4 million across 28-days. It was the number one broadcaster comedy episode for 16-34s with 1.2 million.

Amandaland follows Amanda (Lucy Punch), the self-appointed queen of SoHa, as she navigates teens who are now turning into adults and a mother, Felicity, (Joanna Lumley) who refuses to accept her advancing years. All while she endeavours to build her profile as a super influencer and attain a Chiswick lifestyle on a Harlesden budget.

In series two, which launched last week, we saw the tiniest of romantic frissons between Amanda and fellow divorcee and neighbour Mal (Samuel Anderson), we also met Mal’s ex, no-nonsense Abs (Harriet Webb), with whom Amanda struggled to connect. And of course, Anne (Philippa Dunne) who remains Amanda’s loyal and long-suffering best friend.

Designed to sleep two adults, up to three children and an infant, the treehouses strike that rare balance between rustic charm and boutique luxury. Although elevated among the woodland, everything is incredibly accessible, and the positioning is so cleverly done that you genuinely feel tucked away in your own private corner of the forest. There are no distractions here; no noise from neighbouring guests, no interruptions — only birdsong, rustling leaves and the occasional crackle of firewood drifting through the trees.

Outside, each treehouse comes with its own expansive private deck complete with a hammock, outdoor dining area, seasonal barbecue, sun loungers and a traditional wood-fired cedar hot tub. Evenings quickly fell into a blissful routine: lighting the fire beneath the hot tub, pouring a glass of wine and watching the woodland slowly darken around us while our little dog happily explored the deck before curling up by the stove indoors. Three of the four treehouses are dog friendly, making this an ideal retreat for those unwilling to leave their four-legged companions behind.

Step inside and the attention to detail becomes even more impressive. The interiors are beautifully styled, blending natural textures and rich timber finishes with luxurious comforts throughout. Egyptian cotton bedding, underfloor heating, a wood-burning stove and two immaculate en-suite bathrooms create an atmosphere that feels both indulgent and deeply relaxing. The fully equipped kitchen is spacious enough for proper family cooking, while thoughtful touches such as books, board games, Wi-Fi, hot chocolate, fresh milk and even dog treats make the experience feel effortlessly welcoming from the moment you arrive.

What elevates Dittisham Hideaway beyond simply being a beautiful place to stay is the atmosphere across the site itself. Wandering through the woodland paths at dusk, there’s an almost storybook quality to the setting. Families gather around fire pits, couples soak in steaming hot tubs beneath the trees and children run between hidden woodland trails and outdoor games areas. Scattered throughout the site are little surprises — a teepee tucked among the trees, hammocks swaying gently in the breeze and quiet woodland nooks that invite you to pause and simply enjoy the surroundings.

And then there’s South Devon itself.

The location of Dittisham Hideaway places you in the heart of the South Hams, one of England’s most breathtaking regions. Here, winding estuaries meet dramatic coastline, hidden coves sit beneath rolling green hills and postcard-perfect harbour towns feel untouched by time. It’s little wonder this stretch of coastline has become one of the UK’s most coveted staycation destinations.

During our stay, the area was alive with the energy of the Salcombe Crab Festival — an event that perfectly captured the magic of South Devon in late summer. Salcombe’s narrow streets were transformed into a vibrant celebration of food, music and coastal living. Artisan makers lined the town with stalls selling everything from handcrafted ceramics to local produce, while incredible street food vendors filled the air with the smell of fresh seafood and wood-fired cooking.

Every pub seemed to have live music spilling onto the streets, terraces overflowed with people enjoying the sunshine and the beaches were packed with paddleboarders, swimmers and families soaking up the glorious weather. There was an unmistakable buzz in the air — lively but relaxed, sophisticated but unpretentious. It felt like the very best version of a British seaside holiday.

And yet, despite South Devon’s reputation as one of the country’s most desirable destinations, Dittisham Hideaway somehow still feels refreshingly attainable. This is luxury without the stiffness often associated with high-end escapes. It’s thoughtful, beautifully designed and genuinely comfortable — the kind of place where muddy dogs are welcome, children can roam freely and adults can completely switch off.

Beyond Salcombe, the surrounding area offers endless opportunities for exploration. Dartmouth, just a short drive away, is one of Devon’s most beautiful harbour towns, with pastel-coloured houses climbing the hillsides above the River Dart. Independent boutiques, waterside restaurants and historic streets make it perfect for an afternoon wandering, while nearby Dartmouth Castle and Bayard’s Cove offer fascinating glimpses into the region’s maritime history.

The village of Dittisham itself is equally enchanting. Sitting quietly on the banks of the River Dart, this tiny waterside village is all winding lanes, colourful cottages and bobbing boats. Ferries glide along the estuary, kayakers drift past waterside pubs and life seems to move at an altogether gentler pace.

For beach lovers, South Devon delivers some of the finest coastline in the country. Blackpool Sands, with its crystal-clear water and evergreen backdrop, feels almost Mediterranean on a sunny day, while nearby Slapton Sands and Beesands offer quieter stretches of unspoiled shoreline. Walkers, meanwhile, are spoiled by the South West Coast Path, where dramatic sea views and hidden coves unfold around every headland.

Further inland, Dartmoor National Park offers a completely different landscape of wild moorland, ancient forests and rugged granite tors — all within easy reach for a day trip.

But despite everything the surrounding area has to offer, there was always something deeply comforting about returning to the woodland stillness of Dittisham Hideaway each evening. Lighting the wood burner, sinking into the hot tub beneath the trees and listening to the sounds of the forest became part of a rhythm we didn’t want to leave behind.

Some places simply offer accommodation. Others create experiences that stay with you long after you’ve returned home. Dittisham Hideaway belongs firmly in the latter category — a rare blend of luxury, nature and escapism in one of the most beautiful corners of the UK.

Following Austria’s victory at last year’s contest with JJ’s “Wasted Love,” the competition returns to the Austrian capital for the first time since 2015. The 2026 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be staged across three live televised shows on BBC One, with additional coverage across BBC Radio 2.

Semi-Final 1 – Tuesday 12 May, 8:00pm (BBC One)

Eurovision week begins on Tuesday 12 May at 8:00pm with the first semi-final, broadcast live from Vienna. Presenters Rylan Clarke and Sara Cox will guide viewers through a night featuring 15 countries competing for 10 coveted places in Saturday’s grand final.

Expectations are already running high, with organisers promising “powerful vocals, spectacular staging and a nail-biting results sequence” as nations battle for qualification.

Among the standout performances is Finnish duo Linda and Pete, who blend pop, rock, and classical violin in what is tipped to be one of the most distinctive entries of the night.

One of the most talked-about moments of the semi-final will see British music icon Boy George making his Eurovision debut—not for the UK, but performing for San Marino alongside returning artist Senhit. Best known as the frontman of Culture Club, he will join Senhit for their entry Superstar, as she attempts to secure her strongest Eurovision result yet in her third appearance.

Meanwhile, the so-called “Big Four” countries continue their automatic qualification to the final. Germany’s Sarah Engels will debut her energetic anthem Fire, while Italy’s Sal Da Vinci brings emotional depth with his chart-topping ballad Per sempre sì.

Semi-Final 2 – Thursday 14 May, 8:00pm (BBC One)

The second semi-final airs on Thursday 14 May at 8:00pm, again live from Vienna, with another 15 countries competing for the remaining 10 places in the final.

UK viewers will once again be able to vote, while also getting a first live glimpse of UK entrant Look Mum No Computer, who will preview his experimental track Eins, Zwei, Drei ahead of the final.

Although the UK, as part of the Big Four, is already guaranteed a place in the grand final, this semi-final marks the first opportunity for audiences across Europe to see the full staging of his performance.

The lineup includes several high-profile international names, including Australian singer and former Neighbours star Delta Goodrem with her powerful entry Eclipse. Cyprus is represented by London-born reality TV star Antigoni, performing her Mediterranean-inspired track Jalla.

Hosting duties once again fall to Austrian stars Victoria Swarovski and Michael Ostrowski, who will open the show with a comedic reinterpretation of last year’s winning song Wasted Love. The hosts are also expected to feature in a tongue-in-cheek interval performance aimed at finally clarifying the long-running confusion between Austria and Australia.

Later in the show, reigning Eurovision winner JJ returns to the stage with a brand-new performance, set to “upstage” the hosts in a surprise interval twist.

Grand Final – Saturday 16 May, 8:00pm (BBC One)

The Eurovision 2026 grand final will air live on Saturday 16 May at 8:00pm, presented by Graham Norton. The show will bring together all qualifying acts from the semi-finals, along with the Big Four and host nation Austria.

The night will deliver the usual mix of dramatic staging, emotional performances, and tense voting sequences as Europe and beyond decide the winner of the 70th contest.

As always, the BBC promises extensive coverage across television and radio, with BBC Radio 2 providing additional commentary, analysis, and backstage insights throughout Eurovision week.

Directed by Academy Award and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell, the adaptation has already generated significant attention for its distinctive style and high-profile cast. Leading the film are Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, bringing fresh intensity to one of literature’s most turbulent romances.

The supporting cast is equally notable, featuring Oscar nominee Hong Chau, alongside Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, BAFTA winner Martin Clunes, and Ewan Mitchell. Together, the ensemble brings depth and nuance to the windswept drama set against the Yorkshire moors.

Fennell, known for her sharp storytelling and visual flair, also penned the screenplay, reimagining Emily Brontë’s iconic tale for contemporary audiences while preserving its emotional core.
