A fresh, high-stakes take on Charles Dickens’ iconic novel is heading to television this fall. MGM+ and the BBC have released the official trailer and key art for their four-part limited drama adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities, set to premiere on Sunday, September 6.
The series stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones, Industry) as the brilliant but erratic lawyer Sydney Carton, alongside François Civil (Beating Hearts, The Three Musketeers) as French émigré Charles Darnay and Mirren Mack (Miss Austen, Hedda) as Lucie Manette.
Love, Treason, and Rebirth in 1782 London
Set against the simmering backdrop of Anglo-French conflict in 1782, the series kicks off with Lucie Manette receiving life-changing news: the father she long believed dead may still be alive in Paris.
Her search begins in turmoil when the messenger carrying the news—idealistic French exile Charles Darnay—is arrested under suspicion of treason. Desperate for answers, Lucie recruits Sydney Carton, a sharp yet troubled young attorney, to defend Darnay in court.
What follows is an intense narrative unraveling:
A High-Stakes Love Triangle: As Lucie, Darnay, and Carton cross paths, a deep emotional tension forms, leaving Lucie torn between two starkly different men fighting for her heart.
Bound by Fate: Despite being opposites in spirit, Darnay and Carton share an uncanny physical resemblance and a dark, inescapable destiny that ties them together across tragedy, marriage, and murder.
