Apple TV+ Greenlights New Thriller Series Cape Fear with Javier Bardem, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg
Huge new thriller coming to Apple TV
Apple TV+ has announced an exciting addition to its lineup of original programming with a series order for Cape Fear, a gripping new thriller set to star Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem. The 10-episode series comes from acclaimed writer and showrunner Nick Antosca (The Act, Candy, A Friend of the Family) and boasts an all-star team of executive producers, including legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
In Cape Fear, Bardem will play Max Cady, a notorious killer whose release from prison unleashes chaos on the lives of happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden. A tense, Hitchcockian exploration of true crime and its hold on contemporary culture, the series promises to deliver edge-of-your-seat storytelling.
The show is based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, which inspired two iconic films: the 1962 Universal Pictures classic starring Gregory Peck and the acclaimed 1991 remake helmed by Scorsese.
Cape Fear is produced by Universal Content Productions (UCP), a division of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television. Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, joins Scorsese in reuniting for this modern adaptation. Nick Antosca will executive produce alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey representing Amblin Television.
Javier Bardem is also set to appear in the highly anticipated Apple Original Film F1, scheduled for a global theatrical release on June 25, 2025. This series marks Apple’s continued collaboration with industry heavyweights, following the success of Scorsese’s 10-time Academy Award-nominated film Killers of the Flower Moon and Amblin Television’s Masters of the Air.
