BBC confirms Twenty Twenty Six start date
The start date for BBC comedy Twenty Twenty Six has been confirmed.
Twenty Twenty Six, the new six party comedy spin-off from W1A, will launch Wednesday 8th April on BBC Two and iPlayer.
This year’s football tournament is set to be the largest ever staged. Taking place across the USA, Canada, and Mexico, it will feature 48 competing nations and 16 venues spread thousands of miles across North America—an ambitious scale that raises plenty of potential challenges. Ian Fletcher is about to experience it firsthand as he takes on the role of Director of Integrity with the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight Team in Miami.
Fan favourite Hugh Skinner (known for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Fleabag) returns as Will Humphries, alongside Hugh Bonneville reprising his role as Ian Fletcher. Over the course of two series of W1A, Will progressed from an inept intern to becoming Ian’s personal assistant. Now, much to everyone’s surprise—including his own—he’s back once again, still just as enthusiastic about helping Ian deliver a smooth-running tournament.
David Tennant (known for Rivals and The Thursday Murder Club) also returns from both W1A and Twenty Twelve to narrate events, as the Oversight Team works to manage the complexities of next year’s global competition.
The cast is further expanded with new additions including Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love, Alex Rider), Nicole Sadie Sawyerr (EastEnders, Casualty), Joe Hewetson (Too Much, Sex Education), and Erin Kellyman (Eleanor the Great, Blitz).
Twenty Twenty Six is a brand-new six-part series for BBC Two and iPlayer, created by the team behind the BAFTA and British Comedy Award-winning shows W1A and Twenty Twelve.
