Black Sales: Epic Pirate series is coming to ITVX
STARZ drama Black Sales is coming to ITVX and you're going to love it!
ITV has today confirmed the acquisition of the acclaimed pirate drama Black Sails, which will be available to stream in its entirety on ITVX from 1 March 2026. The deal introduces UK audiences to one of modern television’s most visually ambitious and gripping adventure series.
Created by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine, and originally commissioned by Starz, Black Sails stands as a bold, cinematic prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Across four seasons and 38 episodes, the series explores the brutal, politically charged world of piracy in the early 18th century, set amid the lawless waters of the Caribbean.
At the centre of the story is the feared Captain Flint, whose relentless drive for power pulls him into a perilous struggle against colonial forces, rival pirates and fragile alliances. Alongside him rises the sharp and resourceful Long John Silver, whose evolution from outsider to influential strategist becomes one of the drama’s most compelling journeys. Their uneasy partnership fuels a sweeping narrative of power, loyalty, rebellion and betrayal.
Celebrated for its scale and uncompromising storytelling, Black Sails was filmed primarily at Cape Town Film Studios in South Africa. Expansive ship builds, open-water tanks and richly detailed period sets were crafted to authentically capture the harsh realities of pirate life. The series earned widespread critical praise for its cinematic visuals, layered characters and morally complex storytelling throughout its four-season run.
Black Sails is produced by Platinum Dunes, Film Afrika and Starz Originals.
