Kathryn Hahn, who stars as the villainous Mother Gothel, took center stage to introduce the initial teaser imagery alongside lead cast members Teagan Croft (Rapunzel) and Milo Manheim (Eugene “Flynn” Rider). Disney officially locked in a theatrical release date of March 31, 2028 for the fairy-tale feature.
First Look: The Kingdom Comes to Life
The showcase unveiled official images and footage showcasing Croft in Rapunzel’s iconic purple-and-pink gown, complete with her signature mile-long golden hair braided with wildflowers. Manheim stepped out in Flynn Rider’s traditional blue vest and leather satchel, while Hahn teased Mother Gothel’s dramatic, theatrical presence.
Directed by Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman), the live-action reimagining promises to stay faithful to the 2010 animated hit’s musical roots while delivering sweeping, practical visuals.
Filmed in Girona: The Real-Life Kingdom of Corona
The presentation confirmed that production has been in full swing across Spain, with pivotal scenes shot throughout the historic city of Girona in Catalonia.
Girona Cathedral Transformation: The production team took over the historic Girona Cathedral and its famous grand staircase, transforming its interior arches and stone facades into the royal court of Corona.
Old Town & Gardens: Key sequences—including market scenes, street festivals, and flower-adorned fountains bearing Corona’s iconic sun symbol—were filmed across Girona’s Old Town, the Pujada de Sant Domènec, and the Cathedral gardens.
Practical Magic: Utilizing real Gothic architecture and stone alleyways allowed the filmmakers to anchor the story’s fairytale fantasy in tangible, ancient textures.
