Disney Plus gives UK Sports fans loads of free content
Disney+ UK Viewers Get a Major Sports Boost as ESPN Expands Content
Disney+ subscribers in the UK are set to benefit from a major expansion in sports content, as ESPN programming rolls out across the platform—bringing more live events, studio shows, and documentaries at no additional cost.
If you’re already a Disney+ subscriber in the UK, you don’t need to do anything or pay anything extra. ESPN on Disney+ is included as part of your existing subscription. Disney+ says the offering will grow to thousands of live events over the next year as it moves to bring more and more live sporting events to fans across the globe.
ESPN and Disney+ Expand Global Reach
Expanding its commitment to serving sports fans, ESPN and Disney+ announced the launch of ESPN on Disney+ in Europe and select Asia-Pacific markets today, making the offering available in 53 countries and territories across the regions. With this expansion, ESPN now reaches fans through Disney+ in approximately 100 markets around the world.
In Europe, the expansion builds upon a growing portfolio of world-class sports content on Disney+. In select Asia-Pacific markets—including Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong—a curated selection of English-language ESPN sports programming will be available on Disney+ in this initial phase. All Disney+ subscribers in both Europe and select APAC markets can access exclusive sports content including live sporting events, studio shows, films, and more, alongside general entertainment and kids and family programming, all within a single app.
Live Sports and Major Leagues Coming to Disney+
The initial offering will vary by market, but the long-term plan is clear: scale up to thousands of live sporting events over the next year.
This includes coverage of major US leagues such as the NBA and NHL, both expected to arrive from the 2026–27 season. College sports will also feature heavily, including NCAA March Madness, regular season college basketball, conference tournaments, college football, the College Football Playoff, and bowl games.
Additional programming will include events like the Little League World Series and the increasingly popular Savannah Bananas exhibition baseball games.
Documentaries, Analysis and Studio Programming
Beyond live coverage, Disney+ subscribers will gain access to ESPN’s award-winning storytelling and analysis. This includes the critically acclaimed 30 for 30 documentary collection, as well as studio shows such as ESPN FC, which focuses on global football news and insights.
This blend of live sport, analysis, and documentary content strengthens Disney+ as a more comprehensive streaming platform for sports fans.
Building on Existing Sports Rights in Europe
The ESPN expansion builds on Disney+’s existing sports offering in Europe. In the UK and Ireland, subscribers already have access to LaLiga, while other European regions benefit from competitions such as the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League, and DFB-Pokal.
The platform is also expanding into esports, with events like the Esports Championships Asia Jinju 2026 and the 2026 LoL KeSPA Cup set to feature in Asia-Pacific markets.
Executive Commentary on the Expansion
“Sports and live events are an essential part of our Disney+ content library, and we’re excited to build on the success we’ve already had with sports fans, as we bring more of ESPN to Disney+ subscribers in Europe and APAC,” said Alisa Bowen. “This launch adds to our growing portfolio of local sports rights around the world.”
“This expansion marks an exciting next step for ESPN and Disney+ in our commitment to sports fans,” said Freddy Rolón. “ESPN has a longstanding tradition of delivering world-class content to sports fans, and the continued growth on Disney+ allows us to extend our reach and provide greater access and deeper connections with fans everywhere.”
What It Means for UK Subscribers
For UK viewers, the arrival of ESPN content on Disney+ marks a significant evolution in the platform’s offering. With live sport, documentaries, and expert analysis now integrated into a single subscription, Disney+ is positioning itself as a stronger competitor in the sports streaming market—without increasing costs for existing users.
As the catalogue grows to include thousands of live events, UK subscribers can expect a steadily expanding lineup that goes well beyond traditional entertainment.
