First guest confirmed for 6 Music Breakfast with Nick Grimshaw
Brand new breakfast show launches this Monday 24 February on 6 Music.
Nick Grimshaw launches his brand new 6 Music Breakfast Show on Monday and his first guest will be writer Sue Tilley.
Sue will be on the show to talk to Nick about her friend, the performance artist and 1980s club culture icon Leigh Bowery, and the music they loved to dance to.
Sue Tilley is a British writer, artist, and cultural figure best known for her biography, Leigh Bowery: The Life and Times of an Icon (1997). The book offers an intimate and vivid portrait of Bowery, capturing his flamboyant personality, groundbreaking fashion, and influence on the art and club scenes of the 1980s and 1990s.
Beyond her writing, Tilley is also known for her connection to artist Lucian Freud, who famously painted her in a series of portraits, including Benefits Supervisor Sleeping (1995), which became one of the most expensive paintings of a living artist sold at auction. She worked for many years in the benefits office, a job she humorously reflected on in interviews, before later embracing a career in art and design herself.
On taking over from Lauren Laverne, Nick says: “I’ve had the greatest four months covering for Lauren and I can’t wait to continue waking you up on 6 Music. I want to say thank you to the listeners who’ve made me feel so welcome over the past few months and to Lauren’s fantastic team who have been imperative in making me so happy on air. 6 Music is a precious place, a station I love, I’m honestly honoured to be asked to work there and can’t wait to continue supplying the best new music from the world’s most interesting artists."
Lauren moves to present the 6 Music morning show, also launching Monday.
