First Look: Glen Powell’s ‘Chad Powers’ Returns for Season 2 on Hulu and Disney+
Disney Plus and Hulu have released the first look trailer for season 2 of Chad Powers, launching 3 September.
Get ready to gear up and head back to the field: Disney+ and Hulu have officially unveiled the trailer and key art for the second season of the hit comedy series Chad Powers. The six-episode season is set to drop in its entirety on Thursday, September 3rd, streaming exclusively on Hulu in the U.S. and on Disney+ internationally.
Co-created by leading man Glen Powell and Loki writer Michael Waldron, the half-hour comedy series adapts Eli Manning’s viral Eli’s Places sketch for ESPN into a full-blown sports sitcom.
What to Expect in Season 2
When season two picks up, the stakes are higher and the walls are closing in. Russ Holliday (Powell)—the disgraced superstar QB secretly playing under heavy prosthetics and a fake identity—is finding that his eccentric, bizarre behavior off the gridiron is raising red flags.
With Coach Hudson and Gerry growing increasingly suspicious, Russ and Danny are running out of moves to keep the facade intact. To keep “Chad” on the field, survive the regular season, and lead the struggling Southern Catfish toward the College Football Playoff, they are forced to seek help from the last person willing to lend a hand: Ricky.
Critical Reception: How Did Season 1 Fare?
The return of Chad Powers comes on the heels of a polarizing first season that sparked plenty of debate among critics and audiences alike.
The Reviews: Season 1 debuted to mixed-to-positive critical feedback, landing a 58% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 53 on Metacritic. While critics noted the inherently absurd, thin premise of stretching a 7-minute Eli Manning prank into a full series, many praised Powell’s magnetic performance and ability to balance egotism with awkward vulnerability.
The Comparisons: Several reviewers drew immediate parallels to Ted Lasso—with some calling it a wilder, rougher sports redemption story, while others felt its coarser humor hindered its emotional weight. However, the show built a passionate cult audience thanks to its sharp comedic timing and absurd dialogue.
