First look image of Andrew Lincoln new ITV drama Cold Water released

Cold Water airs later this year

ITV has unveiled a first-look image from Cold Water, an upcoming six-part thriller starring Andrew Lincoln in his highly anticipated return to British television. The series, produced by SISTER (known for Black Doves, Eric, Chernobyl), will be available for broadcast and streaming on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player later this autumn.

Written, created, and executive produced by David Ireland (The Lovers, Ulster American, Cyprus Avenue), the series will be directed by Lee Haven Jones (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, Passenger, Doctor Who) for the first three episodes, while Andrew Cumming (Shetland, Payback, Cold Feet) will direct the remaining episodes.

Set in the fictional Scottish village of Coldwater, Lincoln plays John, a repressed and disillusioned man who is startled by his midlife crisis as he grapples with being a stay-at-home dad. When he fails to intervene in a violent incident at a playground, his personal turmoil reaches a breaking point, prompting him to move his family as far from London as possible, to the remote village of Coldwater.

There, John forms an unexpected friendship with his confident and charismatic next-door neighbor, Tommy (Ewen Bremner), a pillar of the community and the self-appointed leader of the village’s all-male book club. Despite being fascinated by Tommy, John’s wife, Fiona (Indira Varma), harbors strong disdain for him. Fiona saw the move as a chance to leave the past behind and reignite their marriage, but when John’s relationship with Tommy deepens, she grows suspicious of Tommy’s true nature.

As John’s long-buried rage erupts with catastrophic consequences, he becomes unwittingly indebted to Tommy, unaware that his new friend is hiding dark secrets. It’s only after a series of unsettling events that John starts to question who Tommy really is.

The series is executive produced by Chris Fry (Black Doves, Kaos, Landscapers), Alice Tyler (The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies), Lydia Hampson (The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies, Cheat, Fleabag), and Jane Featherstone (Black Doves, Kaos, Eric) for SISTER, along with David Ireland and Andrew Lincoln. Brian Coffey (Dinosaur, Our Ladies) serves as producer.

International distribution will be handled by ITV Studios.

Cold Water will premiere on ITV1, ITVX, STV, and STV Player in the autumn of 2025.
