Frozen 3: Royal Wedding and new love interest. Everything revealed at D23
D23 Expo has unveiled brand new details about Frozen 3, including a royal wedding, new love interest for Olaf and a new villain. Here's everything we know...
Disney brought down the house at the D23 Entertainment Showcase, closing out the night with a first-look reveal of Frozen 3. Franchises stars Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, and Josh Gad took the stage to pull back the curtain on the highly anticipated sequel, teasing a major storyline shift, brand-new music, and a formidable new antagonist.
The Story: A Royal Wedding Ruined
The footage screened exclusively for D23 attendees confirms a longtime fan theory: Frozen 3 opens with the royal wedding of Queen Anna and Kristoff following their engagement in Frozen 2. However, the kingdom’s grandest celebration is abruptly shattered.
A mysterious portal opens in Arendelle, unleashing a sinister new female antagonist. Adorned in living, jagged shards of ice that form a cape resembling a bat wing, the imposing villain meets the royal sisters with a chilling greeting: “The sisters of Arendelle, we finally meet.”
The encounter forces Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf to venture far beyond the borders of Arendelle into an uncharted, snowy wasteland. Menzel warned the audience that the sisters’ journey takes them into a dangerous, untamed land, with Bell teasing that the new threat presents the most daunting challenge the duo has ever faced.
New Songs & A Surprise Romance for Olaf
Returning Oscar-winning duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have penned an all-new slate of original tracks for the installment. Highlights from the D23 presentation include:
A Sisterly Duet: Menzel and Bell treated the crowd to a snippet of a new song, teasing the deepening bond—and rising stakes—between Elsa and Anna as they prepare to cross into the unknown universe.
Olaf’s Love Anthem: Josh Gad stole the spotlight to introduce a hilarious, island-infused musical number. The track reveals that Olaf gets a love interest of his own named Samantha—paying off a fan-favorite running joke from Frozen 2 where the snowman called out the fabricated name while wandering through the enchanted forest.
Character First Look
On the D23 show floor, Disney showcased updated character statues revealing the main cast’s formal wedding attire:
Elsa: Wears a sparkly blue gown accented with diamond crystals down the front, paired with a hooded blue cloak and matching boots.
Anna: Dons an elegant pink floral dress styled with green sleeves, a pale cape, and boots.
Kristoff, Sven, & Olaf: Dressed in tailored dark formal coats and festive accoutrements fitting for a royal Arendelle wedding.
Directed by Jennifer Lee and Trent Correy, Frozen 3 is scheduled to premiere exclusively in theaters on November 24, 2027.
