Could you handle being handcuffed to a complete stranger around the clock? In a bold new social experiment, Jonathan Ross puts 18 courageous Brits to the test, challenging them to do exactly that for the chance to win £100,000.
Nine duos must navigate daily life physically attached to one another 24/7, tackling everything side by side — quite literally only inches apart. If the pressure becomes overwhelming, they’re free to unlock the cuffs at any point. But once they do, they’re out. The final pair still connected at the end will claim the entire prize.
The contestants, drawn from across British society, have never met before. In a country often described as divided, Jonathan hopes that such intense proximity will push opposites to communicate, understand each other’s perspectives, and perhaps even find common ground.
Among the pairings is 60-year-old millionaire businessman and vintage car enthusiast Anthony, who’s determined to restore what he sees as lost manners. He’s cuffed to Tilly, a 37-year-old bar worker and cleaner whose mum has already warned her to mind her language. When Anthony’s chauffeur pulls up in one of his 50-plus classic cars, Tilly is suddenly thrust into a world far removed from her own — but how long will the culture clash last?
Elsewhere, 39-year-old Jo, a plus-size fashion entrepreneur and outspoken feminist, finds herself attached to 29-year-old property developer Reuben, who proudly describes himself as an alpha male. Sparks are almost guaranteed as their values collide.
And then there’s 60-year-old former prison officer George, who travels far from home to meet 79-year-old aristocrat Sir Benjamin Slade at his 14th-century ancestral estate. History enthusiast George is initially thrilled by the grand surroundings, but it isn’t long before their starkly different outlooks begin to surface.
With tensions high and patience tested, the question remains: which pair will be the first to break under the strain and unlock the cuffs?
