ITV gameshow ‘Password’ won’t be returning for a second series, The Version understands.
A first series was broadcast this September, but despite a decent Saturday night slot, viewers just couldn’t warm to it. That’s despite a strong line-up including Alan Carr, Daisy May Cooper as team captains and Stephen Mangan as host.
A popular format in the US, the show saw Alan and Daisy give clever (and often hilarious) one-word clues to help their teammates guess the secret password. The catch? The teams must get on the same wavelength to make the connection, taking turns to decipher each clue as they race through multiple rounds.
One viewer tweeted: “Everyone looks completely and utterly underwhelmed by this ITV daytime show”.
Another predicted: “Bet there's no season 2 for @itv 'sq #password” .
“Ok itv, what on earth is password? #password Possibly one of the worst funniest game shows on tele It’s on at 10:10 to put people to sleep” wrote another.
And summing it up, another viewer tweeted “Well that's half of my life I'm not getting back #password #itv”.
A source told The Version “despite the big names, what is a strong format in the States just didn’t work here, and ITV are concentrating on bring a number of much-loved shows back for viewers to enjoy in 2025”.
Those much-loved shows will include the return of Family Fortunes, reboots of You Bet! and Bullseye plus new episodes of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
