Jamie Laing starts his Ultra Marathon Challenge on Monday.
Starting Monday, BBC Radio 1's Jamie Laing will take on an incredible ultra-marathon challenge to raise funds for Red Nose Day. Announced on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James this morning, Jamie's "Laing-road to Red Nose Day" will see him running over 150 miles in five days, aiming to reach the Red Nose Day telethon in Salford on Friday, 21 March.

Jamie’s toughest physical and mental challenge begins on Monday, 17 March, during the Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James (7 am - 10:30 am). He’ll be joined by friends and family as he sets off from central London to embark on his epic journey north. Along the way, Jamie will run through cities, towns, and villages where Comic Relief-funded partners are providing vital support to those who need it most.
Jamie Laing said: "5 ultra marathons in 5 days? Let's go! I feel honoured to be taking part in this year's Radio 1 Challenge for Comic Relief. I haven't run properly since school, so to be faced with this challenge is pretty overwhelming, but I know the listeners will get me through! I just have to focus on putting one foot in front of the other.
I'm running from London to Salford to encourage conversations and awareness around mental health, anxiety and depression - something I have suffered with myself in the past. I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of others, so I want to thank everyone in advance for their support and donations.
I want to help raise as much money for Comic Relief as possible. The donations, however big or small, will help people everywhere get the basics that everyone needs to thrive, not merely survive – food, healthcare, education, a safe home, and a fair chance at life. Together, let's change the lives of others for good!"
The challenge, titled Radio 1's Ultra Marathon Man: with Jamie Laing for Red Nose Day, will see Jamie tackle daily ultra-marathons over a five-day stretch. He will push through the miles to cross the finish line in Salford, live on his drivetime show, Going Home with Vick, Katie, and Jamie, on Friday, 21 March.
Radio 1 will be fully supporting Jamie throughout the week, offering encouragement and keeping him motivated with messages from loved ones and listeners. Throughout the challenge, Jamie will be joined by Radio 1’s roving reporters, Matt Edmondson and Charlie Hedges, as well as Vick Hope, who will meet him at the finish line each day.
Not only will Jamie be testing his physical limits, but this challenge will also push his mental endurance to the max. With large parts of the journey alone, Jamie will need to keep moving forward to raise money for incredible causes close to his heart.
