A sequel to Masters of the Universe is in the works following massive success on Prime Video.
Masters of the Universe has pulled off a colossal redemption arc. After failing to make a splash at the theatrical box office, the live-action He-Man reboot has exploded into a massive home-viewing hit on Amazon Prime Video.
According to the latest streaming figures, the sci-fi fantasy epic racked up more than 1.1 billion minutes watched during its opening week on the platform. Upon its Prime Video debut, the film instantly claimed the title of the No. 1 streamed movie across all platforms worldwide, beating out both competing feature films and long-running library hits.
The jaw-dropping home success comes as a welcome relief for studio executives, following a disastrous run in cinemas. Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee), the film carried a massive $170 million production budget alongside an extensive global marketing push. Yet, Masters of the Universe generated just $114 million at the worldwide box office—a financial bellyflop that saw it quickly written off by industry analysts as one of the year’s most costly theatrical stumbles.
High Fantasy Meets Earthly Misadventures
The film’s unconventional plot takes a ground-level approach to the iconic Mattel lore. The story begins with a ten-year-old Prince Adam crashing to Earth in a spaceship, losing his magical Sword of Power in the process. Fast-forward 15 years: Adam is living as an ordinary, awkward adult under the pseudonym “Adam Glenn,” working a dead-end corporate job while obsessively searching the internet for his missing blade.
When he finally tracks down the sword, he is reunited with his childhood friend Teela and whisked back to his home realm of Eternia. There, Adam discovers his homeland has been shattered under the tyrannical rule of the villainous Skeletor.

The feature boasts an ensemble cast led by rising star Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You, Red, White & Royal Blue) as Prince Adam / He-Man. Starring alongside him are:
Jared Leto as the maniacal, cackling main antagonist, Skeletor.
Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as the formidable warrior captain, Teela.
Idris Elba as Duncan / Man-At-Arms, the seasoned military leader and Teela’s father figure.
Alison Brie as Skeletor’s ruthless, scheming second-in-command, Evil-Lyn.
Morena Baccarin as the mystic guardian of Castle Grayskull, The Sorceress.
Kristen Wiig bringing comedic flair as the voice of the mechanical ally, Roboto.
By-Passing Theaters for the Sequel
The power of Eternia has clearly found its true domain on the small screen. Viewers who bypassed cinema screens showed up in droves on streaming, turning the big-budget action flick into an overnight viral hit.

A sequel is officially in early development, with executives opting to bypass movie theaters entirely this time around. The follow-up is expected to release directly on Prime Video in November 2027.
