MGM+ and Paramount+ UK & Ireland have officially set sail on an ambitious new project, ordering a six-part drama adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s 18th-century masterpiece Treasure Island.
Reimagined for television by creator Robert Murphy (Vera, Shetland), the high-stakes, coming-of-age adventure series is scheduled to premiere on October 11 on MGM+ in the United States and Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland.

The series features an elite international cast bringing new life to Stevenson’s iconic figures:
David Oyelowo (Selma, Silo) as the charming yet terrifying pirate Long John Silver.

A High-Stakes Reimagining for a New Generation
This fresh take shifts the classic narrative into a bold coming-of-age voyage. The story follows teenager Jim Hawkins as he transitions from a sheltered boy into an emboldened young pirate. When Jim acquires a legendary treasure map, his mother Bess executes a series of clever, decisive actions that inadvertently place both of their lives in grave danger.
Aboard The Hispaniola, Jim and Bess find themselves trapped in a perilous conflict between Long John Silver and agent Aaron Graham. Set across the Atlantic, on the terrifying Skeleton Island, and against the backdrop of a Caribbean on the brink of revolution, the pair must navigate shifting alliances, hidden secrets, and lethal threats where survival—and fortune—are the ultimate prizes.
World-Class Creative Team Behind the Voyage
Produced by Playground (Wolf Hall, All Creatures Great and Small) in association with global distributor FIFTH SEASON, the series boasts a seasoned directorial team including Jeremy Lovering (Slow Horses), William McGregor (The Buccaneers), and Paul Walker (Riviera). Production services are being handled in Spain by Ánima Stillking.
Executive producers include David Stern, Scott Huff, Sir Colin Callender, and Daniel Gratton for Playground, alongside creator Robert Murphy and director Jeremy Lovering.
