New cast announced for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan join.
Today, Prime Video confirmed that Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for the upcoming third season, which is currently in pre-production and set to begin filming this spring at the series' new production home at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Bower will be a series regular, while Marsan will appear in a recurring role. The globally successful series, which has garnered over 170 million viewers worldwide, continues to be one of Amazon’s strongest drivers for new Prime membership sign-ups.
JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER
Widely regarded as one of Britain’s brightest talents, Jamie Campbell Bower has enjoyed a career spanning theatre, TV, and film, and is also an accomplished musician who has toured Europe and America. He is best known for his remarkable portrayal of Henry Creel/Vecna in Stranger Things. Other notable TV roles include playing Mick Jagger in Urban Myths: Mick & Margaret, Christopher Marlow in Will, King Arthur in Camelot, the voice of Skiff in Thomas & Friends, and the character of 11-12 in the remake of The Prisoner, alongside Sir Ian McKellen.
Bower made his film debut in Tim Burton’s gothic musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, where he starred opposite Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, and Helena Bonham Carter. He also portrayed Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I and reprised the role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. His other film credits include London Boulevard, Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, Winter in Wartime by Martin Koolhoven, Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and more recently, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1.
EDDIE MARSAN
Recipient of two BIFA Awards for his performances in Mike Leigh’s Vera Drake and Happy Go Lucky, Eddie Marsan has built an extensive career spanning over 20 years, with several international critics' and festival awards. He is a passionate advocate for diverse and underrepresented voices in the film industry and was recently awarded an OBE. Marsan has multiple upcoming projects, including his role in the Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, the Apple TV+ series Franklin opposite Michael Douglas, Netflix’s Supacell, Firebrand alongside Jude Law and Alicia Vikander, the Brian Epstein biopic Midas Man, The Winter King with Toni Collette, and Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. He also starred in Netflix’s Choose or Die and the dystopian sci-fi drama Vesper.
In 2013, Marsan began his iconic role as Terry Donovan in Ray Donovan, which ran for seven seasons on Showtime, with Marsan reprising his role for the 2022 film. He entered the DC Universe with a role in Deadpool 2 and worked with director David Leitch in Atomic Blonde. His other notable works include Guy Ritchie’s Wrath of Man for Prime Video, the four-part Channel 4 drama Deceit, the TV adaptation of Ridley Road, the crime thriller White Boy Rick, and Adam McKay’s political comedy Vice. His expansive career also includes acclaimed independent films like Tyrannosaur with Olivia Coleman and Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, alongside Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Marsan has appeared in major films including Gangs of New York, War Horse, V for Vendetta, Mission Impossible 3, Hancock, Snow White and the Huntsman, Hobbs and Shaw, and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes.
