Ricky Gervais’s new animated comedy series Alley Cats is No.1 on the Netflix chart.
Ricky Gervais’s new animated comedy series Alley Cats has topped the Netflix chart.
The series has six, fifteen minute episodes, and is Ricky’s first original series since After Life ended after three seasons in 2022.
Featuring a stella British cast including Diane Morgan, Tom Basden and David Earl, the comedy centres around Gus, an overweight and cynical cat.
Revealing his delight at having the number one show on Netflix, Gergvais wrote on Instagram: “Oh. My. God,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a picture of the show occupying the top spot in Netflix’s chart.
“I’ve never been so happy,” he added. “Best fans in the f***ing world.”
Whilst the series has attracted mixed reviews from critics, fans of Ricky’s controversial humour have been lapping up the show.
Speaking about Alley Cats to Netflix Tudum, Gervais previously said: “It’s almost like a typical British sitcom class conflict. They’re uneducated, they’re hungry, they’ve got to be tough, they’re streetwise, but their regular member of the gang is a middle-class pet who’s educated. That’s what starts all the conflict and all the bickering.”
“It’s not surreal apart from the fact these cats talk. I’ve tried to make it quite naturalistic”.
Alley Cats was made as part of the comedian’s multi-million pound deal to make context exclusively with the streamer.
