Former KISS FM presenter Sam Darlaston has joined BBC Radio 1 to host the station’s Friday Early Breakfast show throughout July, marking his latest career move after leaving KISS earlier this month.
Sam, who is from Nuneaton, first joined KISS after impressing judges in the station’s Fresh Talent competition. Over the next 11 years, he became one of the network’s most recognisable presenters, hosting Saturday mornings before taking over Weekend Breakfast in 2022. He also became a familiar voice covering KISS Breakfast whenever required.
His departure from KISS was announced on Instagram just over two weeks ago, ending an 11-year stint with the station. At the time, he hinted that listeners wouldn’t have to wait long to hear him back on the radio, writing that he’d be “back on air soon, will let ya know where and when.”
That promise became reality this morning as Sam made his debut on BBC Radio 1’s Early Breakfast, where he will host Friday mornings for the remainder of July.
Radio isn’t Sam’s only broadcasting role. Alongside presenting, he hosts his own podcast and is also the voice heard on E4, recording continuity announcements between programmes. He has also worked with the BBC beyond radio, joining the BBC Creator Lab in 2024 to contribute to wildlife documentary projects.
With his energetic presenting style, growing profile across television and digital platforms, and experience covering some of the UK’s biggest commercial radio shows, Sam is widely regarded as one of the industry’s brightest emerging talents. If he continues on his current trajectory, he is likely to become one of the leading contenders to eventually succeed Greg James whenever the Radio 1 Breakfast Show host decides to step down.
