Prime Video is diving back into creature-feature territory with The Devil’s Mouth, an intense survival thriller that combines claustrophobic cave exploration with one of cinema’s most enduring fears: sharks.
Rather than hunting its victims in the open ocean, The Devil’s Mouth traps its characters in a maze of flooded caves where there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide and no obvious route to the surface. The result promises a tense blend of psychological suspense and relentless creature horror.
What is The Devil’s Mouth about?
The story follows five friends who decide to celebrate the end of one chapter of their lives with an unforgettable adventure along Thailand’s spectacular coastline before entering the “real world.”
Their final holiday takes them to an isolated cave system known locally as The Devil’s Mouth, where they sign up for a guided swimming expedition through its intricate underwater passages.
But the excursion quickly descends into horror.
A freak storm the previous week flooded the caves with seawater and marine life. While most of the trapped creatures perished once freshwater flowed back into the system, one deadly predator somehow survived.
As the group becomes lost in the twisting labyrinth beneath the cliffs, they’re hunted through narrow tunnels and submerged chambers by a fast, silent killer. With panic growing and trust breaking down, the friends discover that escaping the caves may require impossible choices and devastating sacrifices.
Who stars in The Devil’s Mouth?
The film brings together a young cast featuring several familiar faces from recent hit films and television series.
Kathryn Newton leads the ensemble after establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s rising stars. She has appeared in horror hits including Freaky, Abigail and Paranormal Activity 4, while also starring in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Her growing reputation in the horror genre makes her a natural fit for another survival story.
Lana Condor is best known for playing Lara Jean Covey in Netflix’s hugely successful To All the Boys film trilogy. Since then, she has expanded into action and thriller roles, bringing both emotional depth and resilience to her performances.
Nico Hiraga has become a familiar face through roles in Booksmart, Moxie and the comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls. His mix of humour and charisma could provide some welcome light relief before the film’s tension reaches boiling point.
Gavin Casalegno arrives following his breakout success in The Summer I Turned Pretty, where he gained a large international following. The Devil’s Mouth gives him another opportunity to showcase a more dramatic and physically demanding role.
Tommi Rose joins the central group after appearing in several television and film productions, while Tayme Thapthimthong, whose credits include action series and international productions, adds further experience to the ensemble. With much of the story taking place in confined underwater locations, the chemistry between the cast is likely to be central to the film’s success.
Who is making the film?
The Devil’s Mouth is directed by Jeff Wadlow, whose previous credits include Truth or Dare, Fantasy Island and Kick-Ass 2. He’s no stranger to high-concept thrillers that combine horror with fast-paced action.
The screenplay comes from Aja Gabel and Myung Joh Wesner, while production is led by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Jeff Wadlow.
Executive producers include Carsten H. W. Lorenz, Will Flynn and Sam Greenberg.
