Zoe Ball has been confirmed as the newest addition to the Greatest Hits Radio line-up, with the broadcaster set to host a brand-new weekday afternoon programme from Monday, September 7.
The announcement was made live on-air during Ken Bruce’s morning show, where Zoe revealed she will be taking over the afternoon slot currently hosted by Kate Thornton.
The move marks Zoe’s return to a daily radio programme following her departure from the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Her new show, Zoe Ball in the Afternoon, will feature celebrity guests, conversations with listeners and a regular Friday feature titled Something for the Weekend.
Zoe said: “I’ve missed it and this felt like the right time to begin a new chapter with Greatest Hits Radio.”
Her arrival means she will once again share a daytime schedule with former BBC Radio 2 colleagues Ken Bruce and Simon Mayo, with her programme sitting between the pair in the station’s weekday line-up.
Gary Stein, Director of Audio for Bauer Media Audio UK, said Zoe had chosen to join the station because of her connection with audiences and her interest in music.
Alongside her new weekday role, Zoe will continue to co-host the Dig It podcast with Jo Whiley.
The schedule shake-up will also see Kate Thornton move to a new Saturday programme, while remaining the presenter of UK Pop 40 on Sundays. Claire Sturgess will take over Greatest Hits Radio’s weekend Breakfast Show, airing from 6am to 9am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Kate said: “Zoe’s an incredible signing, an incredible broadcaster and a good friend.”
Greatest Hits Radio Content Director, Andy Ashton, said: “I could not be more thrilled to welcome Zoe to the Greatest Hits Radio family. The whole team are buzzing that another world class broadcaster will be part of our daytime line-up every weekday.
“Zoe and the team are already working on the new show, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. Roll on September 7th, and another huge moment for Greatest Hits Radio as the nation tunes in to hear Zoe hit play on her first song!”
Zoe was recently snubbed by the BBC, who chose Emma Willis over her to present Strictly Come Dancing.
