Nick Grimshaw launches new 6 Music Breakfast Show
Nick Grimshaw's first song today came from New Order.
Nick Grimshaw has launched his brand new Breakfast Show on BBC 6 Music.
Kicking off the show at 7am, Nick played ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’ by New Order followed by ‘It’s Amazing To Be Young’ by Fontaines D.C.
Opening the show, the former Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter said “Well good morning and welcome along to a brand new show here on 6 Music. How you doing?”
“Kicking off with some New Order and then this, the latest from Fontaines, it’s Nick Grimshaw here with you on the radio right through to ten o’clock this morning… and here with one job only… to start your day with the best music from the best, most exciting, interesting artists in the world. I am thrilled to be back with you once again in the mornings”.
Nick’s brand new show included an interview with guest Sue Tilley, talking to Nick about her friend, the performance artist and 1980s club culture icon Leigh Bowery, and the music they loved to dance to.
The new Breakfast Show also sees the extension of the popular ‘Cloudbusting’ feature, meaning Nick will now play an hour of feel-good songs, requested by listeners, between 7.30am and 8.30am each morning.
Paul Simonon of The Clash, Shygirl, Goldie and Beth Ditto are all lined up as guests throughout the rest of the week.
Lauren Laverne, who recently stepped down as the Breakfast Show host, will launch her new morning show today at 10am.
With a reach of 2.7 million listeners (Rajar Q3, 2024), 6 Music is the UK’s biggest digital-only radio station.
