Paapa Essiedu to star in new BBC drama 'Babies'.
New BBC drama Babies is filming now in and around London.
The BBC has unveiled Babies, a new drama series written and directed by award-winning Stefan Golaszewski (Mum, Marriage) for BBC iPlayer and BBC One. Leading the cast are Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror, The Capture) and Siobhán Cullen (Bodkin, Obituary), joined by Jack Bannon (Pennyworth, Pulse) and Charlotte Riley (The Peripheral, Press).
Produced by Snowed-In Productions and The Money Men Studios, the six-part series is a heartfelt exploration of love, loss, and resilience as a young couple navigates their journey to parenthood. Lisa (Cullen) and Stephen (Essiedu) face the anguish of pregnancy loss while the world carries on around them. Through their grief and isolation, they discover strength, humor, and hope, deepening their bond and reaffirming their love.
Stefan Golaszewski shared: “Paapa, Siobhán, Jack, and Charlotte are phenomenal actors. Their warmth, detail, and humanity are vital in telling this important and often untold story.”
Ruth Kenley-Letts, Executive Producer for Snowed-In Productions, said: “Stefan’s writing captures emotional truth with extraordinary precision. I’m thrilled to help bring this compelling and hopeful story to the screen.”
Lindsay Salt, BBC Drama Director, added: “Babies embodies everything we admire about Stefan Golaszewski’s work—a tender, authentic, and deeply human portrayal of a rarely seen chapter in life. The exceptional cast has brought his scripts to life in a truly special way.”
