Paramount+ has unveiled the leading cast for its upcoming thriller The Day (working title), with Minnie Driver, Luca Pasqualino and Louisa Harland set to headline the high-stakes series.
The eight-part drama reimagines the acclaimed Belgian series De Dag, originally created by Jonas Geirnaert and Julie Mahieu, and promises a tense, fast-paced story told across a single dramatic day.
A siege told from both sides
At the centre of The Day is a bank robbery that spirals into chaos when police unexpectedly interrupt the crime in progress. With no way out, the robbers barricade themselves inside, triggering a tense hostage situation that quickly escalates.
The story initially unfolds through the eyes of the police, led by hostage negotiator Sylvia “Vox” Voxley, played by Driver, as she races against time to defuse the crisis and protect those trapped inside. But just as tensions reach breaking point, the narrative rewinds — shifting perspective to the robbers and hostages within the bank.
Each episode alternates between the two sides of the standoff, gradually revealing new layers of the story. As viewpoints shift, assumptions are challenged and the truth becomes increasingly complex, building towards a dramatic and revealing finale.
Creative team behind the series
The series has been written by Ben Harris and Jesse O’Mahoney, and is co-produced by Dynamic Television and Clapperboard Studios.
Executive producers include Mike Benson and Andy Morgan for Clapperboard Studios, alongside Daniel March for Dynamic Television and Tamryn Reinecke. Jake Rollins serves as producer, while directing duties are shared by the Tohill Brothers.
The project was commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Head of Scripted and Deputy Chief Content Officer for Paramount+ UK, together with Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor for Paramount+ UK & Ireland.

Currently in production, The Day is set to premiere on Paramount+ later this year.
