Ratings: BRIT Awards 2025 predicted to reach a record low
Fans labelled the BRITs "out of touch".
The 2025 BRIT Awards attracted a predicted 2.5 million viewers, marking the lowest-ever audience for the annual music event. This year’s ratings are anticipated to be down from the 2.92 million who tuned in for last year's ceremony, and a significant drop from 2023’s 3.79 million, which was 870,000 higher than this year’s broadcast.
The show, broadcast live on ITV1 and ITVX, was hosted by Jack Whitehall, following an overhaul of the event’s presenting team. While the ceremony featured performances from stars like Sabrina Carpenter, JADE, and The Last Dinner Party, as well as live sets by Teddy Swims, Myles Smith, Lola Young, Sam Fender, Ezra Collective, and Jorja Smith, the viewership decline suggests the glitzy event may not have had the same pull as in previous years.
The night was not without controversy, with several moments sparking backlash. A cheeky sketch, featuring a monkey snorting cocaine from a table in a nod to Robbie Williams' film Better Man, was met with criticism, while actor Danny Dyer’s onstage expletive also raised eyebrows.
The night’s awards also left many scratching their heads, with acts like Charlie XCX and Ezra Collective taking home major accolades. The victories of these lesser-known winners over commercial heavyweights like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, KSI, and even The Beatles sparked social media outcry, with many viewers describing the ceremony as “out of touch.”
Despite the evening's star-studded performances and high-profile tributes — including a heartfelt nod to Liam Payne — the low ratings and public criticism leave some questioning whether the BRITs can regain their former popularity.
For those who missed it, the ceremony is available to stream on ITVX.
