Station announces huge schedule changes.
BBC Radio 2, the UK’s most popular radio station with 13.3 million weekly listeners (RAJAR Q3 2024), is gearing up for an exciting start to 2025 with significant schedule changes, including new shows and familiar voices taking on fresh roles. It comes after Zoe Ball stepped down from the Breakfast Show this morning. She’ll leave on Friday 20 December.
Scott Mills to Host Radio 2 Breakfast Breakfast Show
Scott Mills has been announced as the new host of the iconic Radio 2 Breakfast Show, taking over from Zoe Ball, who steps down after six successful years. Zoe, however, will remain part of the Radio 2 family, with further details about her next steps to be revealed.
Reflecting on the move, Scott shared:
“Zoe and I have been close friends for over 25 years, and her incredible work on this show has set a high bar. Hosting the Breakfast Show is a dream come true for me, following in the footsteps of legends like Sir Terry Wogan, Chris Evans, and Zoe. I’m beyond excited to begin this next chapter.”
Zoe praised her successor, saying:
“Scott has been a dear friend for years, and I couldn’t be happier for him. Breakfast has always been his dream, and he’s perfect for it. I can’t wait to tune in and cheer him on!”
Trevor Nelson Moves to Weekday Afternoons
Trevor Nelson, known for his soulful rhythms on the late-night Rhythm Nation show, will now host the weekday 2-4pm slot. Trevor expressed his excitement about connecting with a daytime audience:
“It’s an honor to entertain the nation during the day. I’ll bring plenty of soul, fun, and games like Five Seconds to Name, so there’s something for everyone!”

DJ Spoony Expands “The Good Groove”
DJ Spoony will extend his The Good Groove show from its current Friday night slot to four nights a week, airing Monday to Thursday, 10pm-midnight. The show will continue to deliver a vibrant mix of soulful and dance classics spanning six decades.

“Hosting eight hours of The Good Groove weekly is a dream come true. It’s an honor to share timeless dance tracks with Radio 2’s amazing audience.”
Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco Grows
Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Kitchen Disco will double in length, bringing two hours of non-stop party vibes to Friday nights from 9-11pm. Sophie enthused:
“Friday nights are the perfect time to bring the weekend energy, and I’m thrilled to extend the Kitchen Disco for even more fun!”
