The Bay returns for a new series tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
In the fifth series, Marsha Thomason reprises her role as Morecambe MIU's Family Liaison Officer, joined by DS Jenn Townsend and returning cast members Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher, and Andrew Dowbiggin. Olwen May (Happy Valley, Trying) joins the team in Morecambe, while Barry Sloane returns as Chris Fischer. Georgia Scholes portrays Chris's daughter Erin, and David Carpenter and Emme Hayes return as Conor and Maddie, Jenn’s children. Suzanne Packer (Casualty, Keeping Faith) also joins the cast as Jenn's mother, Anne Townsend.
When 23-year-old university student Hannah is discovered dead at the docks, the Morecambe MIU team is called in to investigate. Jenn, returning to work after her father's death, sets aside her personal grief to support Hannah’s fractured family.
As the investigation deepens and tensions rise in the student community, Jenn and her team uncover hidden connections and secret affairs. With the pressure mounting, Jenn must navigate the complexities of Hannah’s life and the secrets that lie within. Amidst the intensity of the case, Jenn struggles to balance her professional duties, her own grief, and her relationship with her family.
