Sky has officially announced its immersive new event television series, The Wargame, set to air daily from Monday, 21 September through Thursday, 24 September at 21:00 on Sky One and NOW.
Designed to push the boundaries of traditional broadcast journalism, The Wargame takes viewers beyond the standard 24-hour news cycle and into a sealed, COBR-style crisis room. In this high-intensity environment, real-world senior politicians, military figures, and intelligence veterans face a terrifying hypothetical scenario set six months in the future: a direct Russian attack on British soil.
Inside the Simulation
To ensure absolute authenticity, the simulation was developed alongside leading academics, military experts, and defence strategists, including Sky News’ Security and Defence Editor Deborah Haynes. The artificial crisis unfolds in real time, subjecting the simulated leadership to a barrage of minute-by-minute dilemmas delivered through rolling news updates, social media footage, and military intelligence briefs.
Participants must navigate shifting geopolitical dynamics, unexpected enemy interventions, and high-pressure domestic choices. Opposing the room of public figures is a dedicated team of geopolitical and security specialists led by renowned Russia expert Keir Giles.
A Heavyweight Cross-Party Cast
The series features an unprecedented lineup of heavyweight political and diplomatic figures acting as a simulated Cabinet:
Leadership & Cabinet: Lord Michael Gove (Prime Minister), Nicola Sturgeon (Deputy Prime Minister), Dame Penny Mordaunt (Defence Secretary), Baroness Harriet Harman (Home Secretary), Jim Murphy (Foreign Secretary), and Baroness Sayeeda Warsi (Attorney General).
Communications & Security: Baroness Ayesha Hazarika (Director of Communications), General Sir Richard Barrons (Chief of Defence Staff), Lord Kim Darroch (National Security Adviser), and former MI6 officer Christopher Steele (Intelligence Chief).
International Alliances: Lord George Robertson serving as NATO Secretary General and Anthony Scaramucci as the US Secretary of State.
US Transmission Details
While The Wargame makes its premiere on Sky One and NOW in the UK, US viewers can expect international distribution through Sky’s parent company network, Comcast / NBCUniversal. The project is slated to stream on Peacock in North America following its UK broadcast run, with full broadcast timing updates expected shortly from NBCUniversal distribution.
More than just dramatic viewing, The Wargame functions as an urgent stress test of national readiness, leadership capability, and modern democratic resilience in an increasingly volatile world.
