HBO Confirms Long-Term Plans Through 2028
HBO is committing to the future of the franchise, with Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, announcing renewals for both House of the Dragon and its companion series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Both shows are now set to continue through 2028, airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Also Renewed
The expansion of the Game of Thrones universe doesn’t stop there. The new half-hour drama A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has already been renewed for a second season.
Season one will be available on HBO Max, with UK viewers able to watch via Sky TV and NOW.
When Will House of the Dragon End?
As part of HBO’s long-term roadmap, the fourth season of House of the Dragon is scheduled to air in 2028, suggesting a planned, multi-season arc for the series as it builds toward the climax of the Targaryen story.
What HBO Has Said About the Future
Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, said:
“We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the Game of Thrones universe. Together, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin’s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have so beautifully captured. And this Summer, House of the Dragon is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet."
The Bigger Picture
With returning stars, new cast additions and a clear long-term plan in place, House of the Dragon continues to be a central pillar of HBO’s strategy.
As the story of House Targaryen unfolds, the franchise is expanding into a broader universe—ensuring that Westeros remains a major force in global television for years to come.
